NCAA Basketball: Futile Five Preseason Preview

The prospects for the five NCAA Division 1 basketball teams who have played every season since the NCAA Tournament began but have never qualified for the tournament. Based on Sporting News preview magazine.
Army: Predicted finish is 5th out of 10 teams in the Patriot league. Finished 5th last year. Looks to be middle of the pack team in their conference with hopes to get lucky in the conference tournament.
The Citadel: Finished last in the Southern Conference last year. Predicted for last this year. Not much chance of ending their streak.
Northwestern: Finished next to last in the Big 10 last season. Predicted for next to last this year ahead of only new conference arrival Rutgers.
St. Francis (NY): Finished 4th last year in the NEC. Predicted for 1st in the conference this year. They have the best shot of the five to remove themselves from the list.
William & Mary: Finished 3rd in the CAA last season and lost in the Conference Tournament final by one point. Predicted for 2nd this year with a legitimate shot to break the drought. Chances have improved over the past few years as VCU, George Mason, and Old Dominion have left the conference.
