"Zombie" is the result of a viral amplification from two cures (cold and cancer) mixing unexpectedly. Everyone in the world is infected but dormant and you are "amplified" if you come into contact with someone else already amplified. It's a simplistic representation of how they explained it but it was interesting in that it's not a matter of getting infected, but a matter of it springing to life inside you
