I have to think it's designed intentionally like that because otherwise it comes off as a poor job.
I think they missed an opportunity to go realistic although maybe they realize they risk grossing out the audience too much. I mean, Twisty is more than enough...I still wanted to know where he got that skull cap...but I can imagine.
