I disagree on point one. I'm not saying both sides don't do it (especially in election years), but they don't do it equally by any means. It's a

terribly false equivalency. On point two I'm not telling them what their interests "should" be. I'm examining where they are and making a determination of whether their are interests are being served by the policies being supported. People can choose to value their interests in any way they choose, but whether they are being helped or hurt by policies they are supporting is more objective than that.
