I can determine that when they are supporting policies that cut taxes for the rich and cuts to government spending on matters that directly impact

them, their interests are not being served. They may view social issues like abortion as more important to them, but many of the tea parties don't identify with those issues. So I think you can tell whether people are being served well by their choices. In fact in many instances these same people will tell you they want exactly the things the policy denies. Go up and down the list of Obamacare initiatives and they are popular, yet the program isn't. Mainly because of fear. "Government takeover of healthcare", etc.
