Pro tip: You only get AAdvantage miles for the most expensive economy wears (Y, B, H or maybe Y, B, M) on Cathay flights. No miles for discount economy.

But if you book the AA codeshare, you get 100% miles regardless of the fare code.

Also: one of the Cathay flight to/from JFK stops in Vancouver, so you can fly Cathay between JFK and YVR (though I don't think AA codeshares on that)
