I never thought of the chain type collar as a negative ... it just did a better job of catching the attention than the regular collar - I never pulled

enough to choke the dog - and it didn't have spikes or anything - it would just briefly tighten when I tugged it to keep the dog attentive to our walking or that it was time to sit or stop
