I've never done the island tour itself, but a friend from out of the area and I did a bay tour that included a lot of time about it several years ago.

lifelong area citizen and all, I still learned some things about it and some other places in the city; so that was cool, plus sailing under the gg bridge is always a blast. (sometimes a very chilly and foggy blast, but enjoyable all the same.)
