i don't see the benefit of individuals getting a "paper trail" other than soothing their minds.

It wouldn't stop the database from being hacked, and that vote from being changed after the vote receipt was printed.

IMO, the much bigger problem with the Diebold machines is that even if the system was hacked, we probably wouldn't know about it.
