Royal Caribbean and Carnival both have a kind of 2 tier or 3 tier branding system.

Carnival has Carnival, Princess and Holland America while Royal Caribbean has Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.
In truth, Carnival could probably merge their first two brands, but Carnival has a reputation as "party boats" which is appealing to some but might scare others, and so Princess exists as an economical alternative while Holland America caters to the fancy pants crowd.
