you can get a rough idea of what you're facing by looking up the General Score.

it won't give you an idea of what's in the town and the Gen Score is a total of a player's military power in all towns but still, it's better than nothing.
If I see someone with a Gen Score of 50 I know they're Bait.
If it's 3K I know it's more of a fight.
