apparently my power at home is out. my friend works near there and just texted me that the whole neighbourhood is blacked out.

I lucked out when I lived in LA, I was on the same grid as a hospital, and my power never went off, despite rolling blackouts all over every summer -- nm

yeah, it doesn't actually show my street as out - but my friend just drove down lakeshore and it was black on both sides where we are.
