DHCP, yeah. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It lets the computer's connection information get auto-configured by another device. Much less hassle

than it used to be.

But still, that only assumes that the configuration of the device's settings is the problem; it could be the device itself (the chips can fail, even spontaneously), or it could be the driver.
