- 6 years old: asked for (and received) Barbie's Ice Cream Dream House for my birthday. Kindergarten: In retrospect, I was much too interested in the photo of the astronaut with his shirt off and hooked up to his heart monitor leads.
-2) 8 years old - Tommy the Green Ranger joined the Power Rangers and I just wanted to brush his hair and help him put it in a ponytail and maybe have long hair myself so he could brush it and help me put it in a ponytail.
-2) this is earlier, but I was absolutely obsessed with He-Man and She-Ra; particularly the relationship between He-Man and Man-at-Arms. I made them all live in She-Ra's Cloud Castle (vs. He-Man's Castle Grayskull) because it seemed so much lighter and more fabulous. Oh, and I would steal my sister's Strawberry Shortcake toys so that they could come by the Cloud Castle for visits...
- Definitely the Easy Bake Oven
- 2) In second grade, I had a conversation with a friend as we were lining up to go to the bathroom (remember, everybody had to line up?) I told him sometimes I was confused about which bathroom to use, because I had the physiology of a boy, but had girl characteristics, like "being graceful."
In kindergarten, I would chase girls around the playground trying to kiss them. Believe it or not, I totally consider this a sign.
- Aside from being fascinated with He-man's "fantastic powers", wanting everything Bert and Ernie for Christmas (and getting it) at 3, and enthusiastically performing the soundtracks to Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast on tabletops at home and school (with my mother's encouragement), I recall staring at my little league coach demonstrating proper fielding technique and wondering about his sex life. Beyond that, I think my discovery of the A & F catalog closed the deal
- 1) When I was in kindergarten, instead of using water colors on paper, I would spend a lot of time putting it on my face as makeup. I would then rush upstairs, find my moms heels and dress and twirl around. I would get caught all the time, but my parents would just find me a dress that, as they said, "matches your lipstick"
