Obama ran as and has governed as a compromiser and that has rubbed a lot of old-school Dems the wrong way.

But, honestly, nothing would have gotten done for 8 years if he hadn't. He's chosen battles to fight pretty intelligently whether that has pleased the vocal base or not.

Until the Congress is fully in Dem control expect any Dem president who choose fight over compromise to lose a lot of those battles.
