I think Adnan did it, and Jay helped far more than Jay says. I think Jay crafted a story *closer* to the truth, but the inconsistencies are his hiding his involvement. Adnan never expected Jay to confess to any part of it, so he, of course, started out saying he's innocent and has stuck to it, because the only option is to confess to the whole thing.

i think they're both guilty.
