Since I have never had kids this step-dad gig has been wildly frustrating, education, entertaining and rewarding sometimes all at once

I have to admit this was a fun moment....
Oldest is 20 and moved out. I spent a little time talking to her about well being a grown up. She listened and made sure she and BF were on ALL paperwork together.
Her comment was why (at the time) and I said well if you arent on the lease or other things when he tells you (if he does ever) to GTFO...you sort of have to in the state of TX.
She did they are doing ok. But the funny moment was visiting recently to bring the sick kid homemade soup I asked how it was going.
She said, "It is really nice having my own space and be able to do my own thing. But man it was so much nicer when someone else is paying for everything. I didnt realize how hard bills and paying stuff was and how much work you did to make sure things were ok."
---- ahhhhhhh feels so nice :)
The flip the middle kid (18) broke up with BF again and hours of crying where you feel like a clueless, helpless oaf that can only offer hugs and reassurance that it gets better eventually
