She's undoubtedly a great person who felt she had to do those terrible things. I was thinking how many of the characters are of course high nobility, historically speaking. For the sake of time, the series can't get into all of the great accomplishments in the characters' backgrounds. It's largely unmentioned in the series, but in their time these people moved mountains. Built civilization as we know it. Steered a great ship of state through history... :)
In the case of Livia his grandmother, her confession scenes were compelling. She had reasons for doing what she did, there would have been (more) civil war if she didn't.
