I wouldn't say that ironic is the right word - those ideas being in religious texts just means that they are best known from those texts, not that

those thoughts originated there.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" pre-dates the New Testament by at least 2000 years, for example - from Ancient Greece and before that Babylon, and before that ancient Egypt. And presumably before that in some other civilization. (And that's only counting the parts of the world that were directly influential in developing Christian thought - it's a philosophy that could easily have been developed independently elsewhere)
