Showing up last. If the Eagles were there from the beginning I think it's a different story.

And again, are the Eagles just the baddest bad-asses in Middle Earth? Seems like if you want to really take over, all you need is Legolas, someone to carry arrows for him, and a squad of Eagles. Forget the ring. The Eagles are the one true power in Middle Earth.
