In response to "LYC: Mrs. Vermin is prob'ly gonna have a Cesarean. " by Dr.Vermin

"Every pregnant woman in the U.S. should be alarmed by this rate,"

"Every pregnant woman in the U.S. should be alarmed by this rate," Pam Udy, president of the International Cesarean Awareness Network advocacy group, said in a statement. "Half or more of Cesareans are avoidable and over-using major surgery on otherwise healthy women and babies is taking a toll."

I can't speak to Mrs. Vermin's situation, but I'll speak in generalities. And, generally speaking, OBs look for any reason to perform a c-section. Hiccups? Cross-eyed? Warts? The problem with this is how the OBs minimize the *life-long effects of a c-section* (that is to say, they mention NONE of them). That scar will bother Mrs. Vermin all her life. The scar tissue inside the patient may grow for years and may cause intestinal blockage. It may cause complications with future pregnancies (pray the placenta doesn't implant on the inside of the scar, next time). And don't think for a second that the next time, they won't say "You had a c-section last time, so you'll have a c-section this time" (even if that isn't really necessary - see "VBAC" - and a second c-section only augments future complications). It may be necessary, but make no mistake, this is major surgery and should be treated as such.
