Don knew where he was because he was working, and could go back and check his time sheets; also, he was filling in for a friend at a different store, so that would be something that stuck out.
Adnan's was a normal day of school, track practice, mosque, etc, that he didn't know "exactly" where he was every hour of that day doesn't really strike me as odd. I can't remember what I did on any give day six weeks ago, outside of the hours I would have been working, if it was a work day...
