Sawyer, Jack and Kate are recruited by the Others to build the runway. They're also the people in 1977 who - presumably, at some point - figure out that a runaway is necessary to save the 2nd plane from crashing. No coincidence there.

Also, if I was away for 3 years and I was catching up with my buddies about what was going on on this freaky-ass island, I'd talk for hours and share information such as... Where the *fuck* is Farraday, and yeah, that creepy kid with the glasses is Ben Linus.
