I'm trying to avoid being alarmist, but I'm thinking I might have an area of skin cancer.

I first noticed it about 2 weeks ago, a mole/freckle on my chest that has been there all my life, but now it seem slightly mushy and changing in consistency. The alarming part is that the area around it has become a little discolored (brownish skin...I'm very pale-skinned). When I checked a bit ago, it seemed to me that the discoloration had spread a bit.
I'm trying not to freak the hell out about it right now, since I can't do anything about it til I get home
(as luck would have it, before I noticed this, I made my first-ever skin cancer screening appointment with a dermatologist. As I said, I'm pale)

Wise to get it checked out. I too questioned one that was on my waist that began to get itchy but the physician said while he noticed some scaling it

get it checked out right away. While not all skin growths are cancerous, the cancerous ones look like the one you describe. -- nm

GO see a doctor as soon as you can... skin cancer is very treatable and rarely terminal -- nm
