Nicholson was the best actor but does he epitomizes the 70s? I know the films of the decade but not the culture.

When you think of people that represent what the 70s were like is he someone that comes to mind?
I'm honestly curious because he was the actor I thought did the best work but I don't know if he epitomized the decade.
