I am pleased with my Echo so far, more than I expected.

I think it's a pretty decent speaker for the size - it fills the room with sound and only sounds distorted if I turn the volume up very high. This isn't a replacement for a good hifi system.
What I love is the ability to tell it to play a certain song, album or artist. I have a smart TV on the first floor (the whole floor is "open concept") but I have so much music on my computer that it's a chore to find specific songs using the remote. With Echo, I just tell it what to play. If I go by artist, it will shuffle-play everything.
Pre-Echo most of my music listening has either been at my desk upstairs, on my mp3 player when I'm walking to/from work or during work, or in the car. Now, when I'm doing something downstairs I can easily have music playing in the background.
Echo will also play Prime music so you don't have to have a library of your own.
I have yet to play around with making playlists in my amazon cloud music library. When I do I expect I can choose one and have Alexa play it.
I also use the Echo for weather reports or when I have a random thought and want more info. If she can't answer my question she might send a Bing link to my Echo app, which I can access on my phone or tablet. This is pretty cool because if I forget that random question I come upon it on the app and can follow up then.
There's still some learning going on, in that I'm learning what she can and can't answer. She can tell me who the 15th president is but I haven't been able to phrase a question correctly so she lists all the presidents (could be she can't answer that or I'm asking it wrong).
I still get a kick out her answer to the meaning of life.
