So my mom got me an Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas. Results just came back today.
|
100% European ancestry
Great Britain - 29%
Ireland - 25%
Western Europe - 20%
Eastern Europe - 8%
Scandinavia - 6%
Iberian Peninsula - 5%
Italy/Greece - 5%
Finland/Northwest Russia - 5%
European Jewish - 1%
The most surprising thing is that my ancestry is much, much, much more diverse than family lore would indicate. The fact that "Great Britain" exceeds "Ireland" stuns me because my dad's entire family is supposedly Irish and Volga German. Mom's side of the family is supposedly Welsh and Scandinavian, with just a smattering of British and Western European lineage.
Anyway, this is pretty damn interesting. I'm going to have to dig into this a lot more.
