I ended up at a table with Smart Girl and her shadow, Dancer. Oh, and Smart Girl's mom. I sat by Smart Girl all night. I felt decidedly queasy. I don't think I embarrassed myself... too much. We chatted. She didn't seem off put by me. So at least I haven't totally struck out with her. That's the OK part. And I hope I impressed her mom with my winning ways... because we won again! That's the good part.
Man, that was a tough night of trivia. The questions were hard across the board. We got many wrong, but so did all the other teams. We pulled it out in the last round. Smart Girl and Dancer seemed genuinely excited to be on the winning team. Perhaps I've impressed them with my trivia skills.
The other teams from my Meetup group I believe placed 2nd and 3rd. We're pretty much running roughshod over these peasants.
I brought 2 gift cards with me (that's the prize when you win) but no one used them. I left with 4. Because I also got a bonus round question (The answer was "Missy Elliott"!)
Next time I'll order a pitcher or a platter of fries or something. I think folks are just uncomfortable reaching for the gift cards.
Comically, afterwards I was speaking with some of the others in the group, and one of them remarked that he was surprised that I was smitten by Smart Girl. He thought I was pining for Dancer. Regardless, I hope I'm not that obvious in front of them.
