My group went for a hike at Alsea Falls today. One of us (not me) took an intentional swim in the rapids. That was... something.

She slipped on the wet rocks and slid until she went over a ledge into the water. I imagine the water was somewhat shallow - but the water moved fast. She was swept away just a bit, stayed on the edge, and managed to hold on to the ledge. Everyone scrambled to grab her. We made a chain and pulled her out. It all happened in just a few seconds. She dried off and we got her some dry clothes, and we were back on the trail in a few minutes. I don't think anyone realized just how close we came to tragedy.
