Right. The chances they'll run your plate as one of thousands driving by is low, but possible.

But yes, assume that if they do run your plate, they will notice your registration is out of state.
Then you're back to chances - are you going to get a ticket or pulled over just because of the out of state registration? That's up to the officer. He may not bother.
I was busted by a cop I was driving next to because she noticed both my inspection and county sticker were out of date. It happens.
