In response to "I'm not in a position to join up yet...I just want to be nearby when I am ready. -- nm" by Will Hunting

here:

[Welcome to a brand new world].

So glad you have joined us! As you know, many of Novus came to Beta ahead of time to help prepare for your arrival. What you will find is that there are two main clusters we have began settling.

The first is what we call, The Hub. The location is away from the middle of the map and contains the location of 30:85. It has a wine dolphin and a marble dolphin (as well as a sulphur dolphin). Four colossus islands, one of each resource including two glass. It also has three forge islands. 15 islands in total. In addition, there are several surrounding islands offering even more wonders. It hopefully will offer a ton of islands to build a huge Novus presence.

The other cluster, we call The Core. The location is more centrally located on the map and contains the location of 44:31. It has a wine dolphin and a glass dolphin. And two colossus islands, a marble and a glass. It also has two forge islands. 12 islands in total. It is very centrally located which will make it prime real estate.

As you know, Novus has enough members to fill over 100 islands. These two clusters will only satisfy a small percentage of our members. Especially considering eight different wonders with four different resource types. Novus will need a lot more locations. The key to this will be settling outward from those two locations. What we advise is settling loosely within these parameters.

Visualize a rectangle (actually a parallelogram) with corners at 40:30, 50:30, 30:90 and 40:90. This rectangle has the Hub and the Core at either end. We want you to focus your settlements within that area. And for those of you that want isolation, you could change the last two numbers to 30:100 and 40:100 for nice outpost options on the edge of the world.

By staying (roughly) within these confines you will increase the density of a Novus presence. Of course, you are free to settle anywhere but by having many Novus neighbors you increase your security and for those of your alliance-mates, as well.

Once you have joined Novus, the familiar green flags and towns are a welcome sight, and will help you to find locations. But that takes a little time as everyone has to get back *in* to be seen that way. And with such a large family, there is no way to recognize everyone by name. Plus, with the placeholder towns set up by those that settled ahead, they will not be in Novus.

What we are asking people to do is change their town names for the first 48 hours. If you click on a town and find the name starting “Nov-Avail” it is a town which we placed to let you know that the island is being inhabited and in fact that town will be removed for another player when need be. If you find a town with a name that starts with “Home-” it is a town that is staying there (it has either already warped or was lucky enough to land there and is staying.

That covers a lot of what you need to know. Message with more questions.

Cheers,
WarMachine

P.S. You can probably close all your taverns and use zero wine now. Give it a try!
