We had a deputy (and SWAT officer) run for sheriff last year. He was a pretty conservative candidate so while he likely had much support outside of town and in the rest of the county, he had almost no support in town (where 90% of people live). Ultimately, it came to light that he falsified his credentials when he joined the sheriff's office. Before the election, he'd dropped out of the race, resigned as a deputy, and left the state. And the DA was looking into pressing charges.
