I'm closing in on being one of the top 100 Generals on Delta.
My standing army is usually per town:
100 Phalanx
70 Swords
70 Gunsmen
70 Archers
45 Steam Giants
20 Gyrocopters
10 Bombers
5 Mortars
5 Catapults
a few doctors and cooks
Navy:
15 Ballistas
5 Diving Boats
6 Paddle Wheel Rams
10 Flamethrower Ships
5 Mortar Ships
10 Catapult ships
Please don't, however, use this as a guide. Especially the ratios, especially the naval ratios.
Each type of unit (Defense, Offense and Neutral) has 3 levels. There is debate as to the best force mix and ratios. I've found that a ratio of 7:3:1 seems to be becoming the standard. For example:
7 Ballistas for every 3 Catapult Ships to every 1 Mortar Ship.
This gives you a nice mix of fire power for the cost.
So again, my numbers of units may be off. I'm revamping my navy for the above ratio for example.
My army is too far gone to really revamp that much but I may do so at a later date.
Also, you don't need a military like this at this level. The new version of the game demands you be able to defend yourself but you don't absolutely need to be the largest kid on the block. It's killer on upkeep and development. I have to manage things very carefully lest my Upkeep get out of hand.
