YOUR insurance policy or in YOUR location, either just call the 800 number on your insurance card, call several different docs in the area to see what they charge, or call the state's AMA or American Hospital Associationl. Be aware that if you have insurance, they may have negotiated discounts with doctors. So if you call the office and they tell you something costs $2000, your isurance company might just allow $1200. The office would have to write off the $800 as a contractual adjustment and you'd just be responsible for deductible and co-insurance on $1200.
