Cookie vs. "Pumpkin" is poignant but also hilarious. I think a lot of families have gone through something like that love triangle. Cookie is tough, but she is in a lot of pain inside. And when you are upwardly mobile from the ghetto, you leave a lot behind, yet you also can take a lot of crap with you. I can relate to that.
I agree on the music, and am not really a rap fan either.
I am impressed with how this show handles all its crazy themes. All kinds of wrong things happen, but it never seems glamorized. These people act violently to get ahead, but you never feel good about it. There's always a price. Every action has consequences (Cookie in trouuuuble!). That's great and is something that will keep the show going I think.
