why don't we simply subject it to the same tax brackets from the bottom up, instead of the top down? So, for example, if you had $30,000 in deductions, instead of it offsetting $30,000 of income in your highest marginal tax bracket, the first $16,700 (for married, filing jointly) offsets the portion of your income taxed at 10%, the remainder at 15%...
