a little. there were quite a few people around, so I was reasonably confident nothing violent was going to happen.

we were in his town, and everyone wants to be friends with the local cop, so most of the locals were saying we should pay him. the non-locals all thought it was bullshit. either way, dude's made a bad name for himself now, so probably won't get hired again. tried explaining that to him as well ("if we give you this money, everyone will think you're a troublemaker, and people won't want to hire you in the future.") but he didn't see the wisdom in current sacrifice for future gain.
