If your read is that Iran is "crazy" I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of them.

They are rational actors, we just don't much like their rationale.
We have a LOT of common ground in the area with Iran and it'd be nice if we could focus more on that while working to resolve our disagreements in the other areas.
