I have a software vendor here for the next two weeks doing an implementation. my IT department is so embarrassing.

I would have, beforehand, thought:
what will they need to get connected?
what services are available in the room in which they are working? do they need other services?
what will mary's unit need access to?
I will create a list of databases the software is querying and who owns them in case we have problems
none of this was done. I have an IT project manager sitting in the room with me who makes twice as much money as I do, and every time a question comes up, he "has to look into it" or "doesn't know how that data port works." he just sits there and emails someone "how does mary get access to XYZ database?" instead of walking across the hall to ask.
it's so terrible guys. we look like such idiots.
