while I don't have s.a. about CS via phone, I do appreciate it via chat for multiple reasons - no questions about what's said (especially in these times of loads of overseas-based CS), ability to copy and paste and have a record, and ability to multitask in another window instead of dealing with a phone. plus, sometimes, privacy at work.
