related: last time I flew American Airlines, they'd actually set up a system that would encourage people to take more carry-on.

if you had a large carry-on, you could use the valet service at the gate for free, and board earlier, meanwhile I'd checked all my bags, had a tiny laptop case, and had to wait while all the jerks with 40 pounds of carry-on got on first.
