But really he should just knock them out while waiting on a public event. The public event packages might still drop strange coins. I think they give 5000 exp as well.

You're right about Roc strikes and crucible being the best ways, other than the weekly. Especially with the blue engrams you will surely get having a chance to turn into strange coins.
