what year was this written? not 2015. the increase in sales (over the past, what, decade, at least?) of dark and/or higher-end chocolate should knock this writer on her elitist noggin'; also, the poor dear apparently lost her hyphen key ;p:

Most consumers are not in a good position to distinguish mediocre chocolate from nonmediocre chocolate, having been raised on milk chocolate bars that contain more sugar and vanilla than cacao.

how about focusing on that they apparently just don't make very good bars and not on their alleged outcastery? (www.slate.com)
