Oh, no doubt about that. I think a big part of that is that comics, until very recently, were mostly consumed by people

who were/are marginalized from the popular cliques. So we're seeing a "hey, this is my thing, stop trying to change it to be your thing" response.
Fortunately, I think the broader acceptance of comics will mean a much better, more inclusive industry and creative output.
