Here's the difference. The mostly white male gamers with their panties in a bunch over being inclusive to women are punching down.

The people calling for inclusion and being bitchy about the white male gamers decrying inclusion are punching up.
You look like a bully when you punch down. You look like a victim fighting back when you punch up.
White male gamers hold the power right now and game developers cater to them because that's who buys the games. It's a bit of a vicious circle, because game developers would have to make a different type of game in hopes the audience would appear instead of just making games for the audience they already have.
Then you get some of that hoped for audience saying "this is what we'd like to see" and the current audience saying "if you do, you lose us."
The developers that are going to win are the ones who find a way to be inclusive.
