In response to "Apologies if it actually is about ethics. I assumed that was a red herring " by ralph wiggum

I wouldn't try to find much sanity in the GG discussion, as most of it seems to be "don't be misogynist" vs "we're not, it's just that women suck"

So the conclusion tends to be "this is a horrible debate, let's just drop it because there's nothing here to look into." Which I think is wrong, because it lets press agencies off the hook, which is dangerous for everyone. The gaming industry is bigger than the movie industry and yet the developers face extremely tenuous job stability. Unlike the celebs in the movie industry there's really no way to get the public on their side if they're being maligned, except in the case of women in gaming and you can see how hard that is to fight. That gives gaming journalists a lot of power to kill projects and careers regardless of their merits, and the gaming journalism industry seems to have among the weakest standards of any journalism sector. Not putting them under a microscope allows bad behavior to thrive, and bad journalistic habits continue as they move into other outlets using gaming journalism history on their resumes.
