As much as that would matter in a series that pretends to be serious about serious issues....F&F isn't that series.

If it doesn't go in, it'll be because without Walker, there's limited reason to do so...but 3/4 of a billion dollars internationally is pretty tough to walk away from.
The actual plot is easy to come back to; they realize they made a deal with the devil and somehow that's used against their crew and #8 & 9 are about taking on that threat.
But that's high-level and is likely above the audience here; they want cars, they want familial characters, they want crazy action....
