desktop is even older, oof - shh, don't tell it: I bought an external drive recently to start the process of "decommissioning" it. I have used it only a few times since 2007, but my sister used it when she was at my house all the time.
looks like there are notebooks with dvd drives for less than 300 at amazon. I will use one, just it's not really really needed at present. (I will then need a new home printer, too, which I really wouldn't mind; so there's that? heh. byebye refund.)
