the NYT guy is right on with the first few sentences. The performances he mention off the top feel mailed in. It feels like they want the next Lion King without letting the show be what it is (which is pretty darn good on it's own). There is that one hit that could sell it for years and the other material is there. But the producers didn't trust it and went for star power. Hopefully, it'll do well enough so that they can hire some of the folks we saw in the Boston version.
