ST Poll: Should the government be willing to recognize more than two parents for a child?

For example (though not limited to this example) say that two married lesbians decide to have a baby using sperm from a close male friend and all three of them agree in advance that they want to all three be parents to the child. Should laws be adapted to allow for three parents to be recognized?

In ye olde daze, the concept of godparents was a real thing, if the adults of one family got killed off (plague, vendetta) it was already arranged

No. "Parents" as a legal concept is about legal liability for the child and inheritance. It's not about who the child loves or who loves the child.

I think I'd rather see a birth record indicate known biological parents (amendable later) and maybe then list legally authorized guardians.

The government already does. Well, at least a number of state governments do. -- nm

That's making things way to complicated and complex for a child. All children should be removed from their parents at birth and placed under the care

per yesterday's non-onion news, this is irrelevant since same sex marriage causes abortion. that child will never be born.

I think the government should recognize biological parentage and any other guardians those parents choose to appoint.

Why do they need to? If (man/woman) parents divorce and both get remarried, are all four recognized as parents for the child?

I see the same arguments against as what were developed against gay marriage

So, what laws would need to be changed? Besides what forms look like and stuff like that -- nm
